The holiday brings so many fun memories for my family! I also love this time of year because people have different traditions they celebrate. My dear friend, Layla Living, tagged me in her day 6 Blogmas of her ‘Holiday Tag.’ I decided to answer some of the same questions and added some different ones.
Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
Growing up my parents and I had a tradition of opening one gift on Christmas Eve. Santa’s gifts came in the morning. As I got older, we started going to midnight Christmas Eve service, which was my favorite. Once we got home, we were allowed to open all our presents. It helped make a slower Christmas morning getting ready for the day.
Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
All growing up we always had a fake tree, due to us traveling all the time during the holidays. When Parker was born and we were in our own home, I wanted a real tree. We went down the road and picked one out and it was so much fun. I didn’t know how much work a real tree was. The next year we decided on a fake tree since Parker was walking, and you know what that means. This year we purchased this tree from Michaels and are so pleased. Maybe once the kids are older, we can get a real tree again!
Are you a pro-present wrapper, or do you fail miserably?
True Life: I am a HORRIBLE wrapper. It looks like a 10-year-old wrapped the presents when I am done. Thank goodness for my wonderful husband, CJ. He is an amazing wrapper, plus his OCD kicks in, and the gifts turned out wonderful looking!
What is your favorite Christmas movie?
Babes in Toyland from 1986! I’m sure most people have no idea what I am talking about it, but it’s amazing. You need to see this right away, it has Keanu Reeves and Drew Barrymore in it. On top of that, they mention ‘Cincinnati.’
“C-I-N-C-I-N-N-A-T-I, Cincinnati! The best town in O-H-I-O, Ohio, USA! At first, they called it Cincy, but since Cincy is so natty, they named it Cincinnati, so they say. Hey, the girls are really pretty in this pretty little city, the fellas are the feistiest I’ve seen. And when it comes to ball teams, the Reds and Bengals maul teams, they knock the socks off all teams on the green. I mean to argue’s indefensible, the facts are common sensible, see Cincy is invincible, ya know what I mean? Cincy’s more than merely natty, she’s Ohio’s Maserati, Cincinnati’s at the center of the scene!”
What is your favorite Christmas song?
Christmas music is some of my favorites, and it’s so hard to just pick one!
- *”All I Want For Christmas Is You” Mariah Carey
- “My Favorite Things” by Julie Andrews
- “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays” by *NSYNC
- “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” by Michael Bublé
- “The Little Drummer Boy” by Ashlee Simpson & Jessica Simpson
Most worn winter accessory?
A scarf hands down! I own so many; my closet is full of them, and I’m always on the lookout for more. I feel like scarves are like jewelry, they can never get too small or too big for you to wear. They are also perfect to wear around small children because even if they do pull on them, no harm will come to you (unlike earrings).
What is your favorite part of the holidays?
I love getting together with family who I don’t see as often. Growing up my mom’s side of the family would get together once a month, but as we all got older it doesn’t happen anymore. Christmas brunch always brings us all back together. I also really enjoy the lights all around the city! It makes everything seem more magical!
Favorite destination to spend Christmas?
If I can’t be home in Cincinnati celebrating Christmas, I love spending it in NYC. Fun fact, my dad is from New York, and I still have family living there. Christmas in NYC is absolutely magical, and if you can I HIGHLY recommend going. The tree at Rockefeller Center, windows at Saks, Grand Central Station, and lights around town are so breathtaking. The pictures and images on TV don’t do it justice at all.
I have enjoyed sharing a little bit about my holiday traditions with you. Don’t forget to check out Layla and Pheobe to hear about their traditions. I would also love to hear about your family traditions! Tell me in the comments, tag me in your Instagram, or your blog post!!
