Do you have that big project that you have been wanting to do ever since you moved into where you are living? This is ours, ever since we moved into our house almost 3 years ago!
The backyard has caused me so much angst over the past 3 years. There is so much to do back there, with the list growing all the time. We finally decided this would be the summer to tackle all those projects! Parker turns one at end of September and we would love to have everything done by then to host his first birthday party.
As I mentioned in the previous post, I started working on it this weekend. It wasn’t a big thing, but it is definitely a step in the right direction and needed to be done.
When we bought the house we were so excited it came with an above ground pool. We quickly realized it was a lot of work, and we barely used it for the first two summers. After one summer, we accidentally ripped the liner. Last summer when my husband went to fix it we realized the pool was already starting to rust after we had already bought the new liner. We made a decision then that it wasn’t worth it in our season of life to spend the money fixing the pool. We put it on Craigslist and someone is coming this weekend to take it away!
Our plan is to square off the deck, put some stairs, and a patio with a fire pit in. I am beyond excited to get rid of this pool. It always makes me nervous when we have little kiddos come over since our deck goes right into the pool.
Unfortunately, we are going to have to take some trees out. This was one thing I didn’t want to do but the more I thought about it, it was for the best. We will probably be taking out 2-3 trees. We have had some estimates, but waiting on some more. One tree we have to take out is almost knocking down the fence, the other is mostly over our neighbor’s backyard/fence, and the other one is on the other side of our fence.
The other thing we would like to do is level of our backyard. It slopes down pretty bad on both sides of the deck. On the left side, it is a little of a drop and always makes me nervous. I tried to capture it in pictures, but sometimes it’s hard to see.
That is it for all our big projects in the backyard. We have a lot of weeds to pull, a garden bed to take out, and miscellaneous landscaping to do. I am beyond excited to finally be doing this! It’s going to be a lot of hard work but it will be well worth it! Keep checking back for updates, and on Instagram.
